We are a strongly growing semiconductor company and have pioneered the growth of gallium nitride on silicon substrates (GaN-on-Si). We supply our customers worldwide with our next generation of epitaxial wafers for LED and power semiconductor applications. Comparing to current generation wafers the use of our large diameter GaN-on-Si-wafers allows the industry to facilitate standard semiconductor production sites to allow massive cost saving.
The two huge markets we supplying to are growing rapidly. The LED market alone expanded from about 6 billion US$ to approx. 11 billion US$ in 2010 (Strategies Unlimited) and is still increasing. The already extremely high efficiency is constantly increasing while production costs continuously need to be lowered. Also the 15 billion US$ power semiconductor market according to ‘Yole’ study is under pressure to deliver ever more energy-efficient power conversion and management at lower cost.
With our capability to supply large diameter GaN-on-Si-wafers which fulfill our customers’ performance requirements in terms of, for example, brightness for LEDs and breakdown voltage for power semiconductors we satisfy their needs for the next generation wafer technology.
The achievement of the required performance criteria also on large 150 mm diameter wafers is made possible by our proprietary and patented technology. This allows us to grow highest crystalline quality GaN-on-Si. The GaN epitaxial layers are up to 8 µm thick. The bow of the 150 mm wafers is below 20 µm and allows the use of standard CMOS-fabs for massive cost breakthrough for LEDs and power semiconductors.
After industrialising the technology with standard semiconductor process and quality controls over the last two years and raising the required financing from international and independent financial investors we are now in the final stage of completing our new site with world class capabilities at the heart of the semiconductor industry in Europe, Dresden.
